Chapter 5
Conclusion

South East Asia is a large area with a common history. 'The House' in this area has developed in conjunction with the culture. Despite the present day variation in forms of the house', there is unity concerning the ideas and symbolics behind it. From the analyzed Middle and East Javanese temple-reliefs it shows that certain ideas concerning (traditional) housing already existed back then. This does not signifies that people thought back then about the house' exactly the same as today, but it does imply that there has been a continuous development. The representations on Middle Javanese temple-reliefs that are not of local origin, show that there has been a large inter regional influence. These representations also connect partly with a South East Asian Bronze Age civilization. The later East Javanese reliefs show that there has been a continuing development until today.
